First graders, and anyone beyond that grade who is new to Cub Scouting, completes the Bobcat Badge prior to working on their grade-specific badge of rank. Kindergarteners, who are Lions, do not work on the Bobcat Badge. In earning the Bobcat badge, Scouts learn about the Scout Oath and Law, as well as the Scout Sign, salute, motto (“Do Your Best”), and handshake. Memorization is not required. The requirements for the Bobcat rank are:
- Learn and say the Scout Oath, with help if needed.
- Learn and say the Scout Law, with help if needed.
- Show the Cub Scout sign. Tell what it means.
- Show the Cub Scout handshake. Tell what it means.
- Say the Cub Scout motto. Tell what it means.
- Show the Cub Scout salute. Tell what it means.
- With your parent or guardian, complete the exercises in the pamphlet How to Protect Your Children From Child Abuse: A Parent's Guide
Details for all the Bobcat requirements are found in your Tiger, Wolf, Bobcat, or Webelos handbook. As requirements are completed, you can enter them directly via the Scouting mobile app, which connects to ScoutBook.
The Bobcat badge should generally be awarded at the Pack Meeting immediately after the Scout completes all the requirements. Please contact your Den Leader for more information.
